Carbon Reduction Plan
Blueseal Cleaning, Property and Training Consultancy Ltd is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its cleaning, property, training and consultancy operations. This plan sets out practical actions and how progress will be assessed through the Plan–Do–Check–Act cycle.
1. Establish an emissions baseline
The Quality and Compliance function will coordinate collection of fuel, mileage, energy, procurement and waste records, identify the reporting boundary and select a complete reporting period. Calculations will document data sources, applicable conversion factors, estimates and gaps.
- Scope 1: Fuel used in company-controlled vehicles and other directly controlled combustion sources, where applicable.
- Scope 2: Purchased electricity and other purchased energy used in premises under the company’s control.
- Scope 3: Relevant indirect sources, including purchased goods and services, waste, business travel, commuting and transport, with coverage and exclusions clearly explained.
Once the baseline is established, management will set measurable reduction targets and timeframes appropriate to the evidence and publish progress against them. Missing data will be disclosed rather than treated as zero emissions.
2. Operational reduction actions
| Area | Planned action | Responsible role / evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Travel and scheduling | Group nearby jobs, reduce avoidable journeys and idling, maintain vehicles, and use remote meetings where suitable. Assess lower-emission vehicles when replacements are due. | Operations Manager — mileage, fuel and journey records |
| Energy and equipment | Switch off unused equipment, maintain machines for efficient operation and consider energy efficiency and service life when replacing equipment. | Operations Manager — energy bills, equipment and maintenance records |
| Cleaning products and water | Use measured dilution, appropriate dosing and efficient cleaning methods. Assess product suitability and environmental impact without compromising infection control or safety. | Cleaning Supervisors — purchasing, dosing and usage records |
| Purchasing and suppliers | Consider durability, repairability, packaging, delivery consolidation and supplier environmental information when making purchasing decisions. | Procurement / Contract Managers — supplier reviews and purchase records |
| Waste and materials | Prevent unnecessary waste, reuse suitable materials, segregate recycling and retain waste transfer evidence. Hazardous and clinical waste must follow the required specialist routes. | Site Supervisors — waste records and inspection findings |
| Staff awareness | Include practical environmental responsibilities in induction and team briefings and invite staff suggestions for reducing avoidable resource use. | Training and Development Manager — briefing and training records |
3. Monitor and improve using PDCA
- Plan: Establish the baseline, identify material emissions sources, assess options and assign actions and targets.
- Do: Implement agreed measures through project plans, purchasing, staff briefings and operating procedures.
- Check: Review action progress quarterly and assess emissions and data quality annually. Distinguish absolute emissions changes from changes caused by the volume of work.
- Act: Address missed actions, update priorities and targets, and carry lessons into future projects and contracts.
Management is responsible for reviewing this plan annually, or sooner when operations change materially. Carbon-reduction measures must not weaken health and safety, safeguarding, cleaning quality or legal compliance.
